OVERVIEW

Animal health technicians bring a unique set of skills and capabilities that can benefit the small animal veterinary industry.

There is a country wide veterinary industry staff shortage, and thus an increasing demand for animal health technicians to step into small animal practice and assist the veterinary team. Khula provides in-depth training for the small animal setting, in alignment with South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) guidelines.

This foundational course is designed for AHTs entering small animal practice. It builds confidence in core clinical skills, including communication, laboratory procedures, anaesthesia and emergency care, providing a strong grounding in companion animal practice.

This bite-sized course equips Animal Health Technicians with essential skills in anaesthetics and emergency care for small animals. It provides focused training on key topics such as anaesthetic techniques, monitoring, and recovery, as well as emergency management, including triage, cardiac arrest, and critical conditions like GDV.

This bite-sized course equips Animal Health Technicians with essential skills in pharmacy management and practical diagnostic support within small animal practice. It provides focused training on drug scheduling, safe dispensing, common veterinary medicines and drug calculations, as well as the minimum database and key laboratory techniques including blood smears, urinalysis and faecal testing to support accurate patient assessment and effective teamwork within the clinical setting.
