KHULA OUTREACH

Veterinary Student Elective

An immersive veterinary elective in Cape Town shaping future leaders in clinical excellence, welfare, and community impact.

What is Khula Outreach?

Khula Outreach  is a selective, week-long immersive elective hosted in Cape Town for 36 final-year veterinary students from Onderstepoort.

The programme bridges academic training with real-world experience, offering hands-on surgical sterilisations, private practice exposure, welfare initiatives, and a dedicated community vaccination drive.

Alongside practical training, students engage in sponsored industry sessions, case-based discussions, and guided professional coaching — gaining meaningful insight into the broader veterinary landscape as they prepare for their community service year and early careers.

With the majority of programme costs covered (excluding travel), Khula ensures accessibility and full participation.

More than an elective, Khula Outreach is designed to develop confident, socially responsible veterinarians ready to lead with both clinical competence and purpose.

Industry & Professional Development

Becoming a Rabies Advocate

Rabies is preventable — yet it continues to impact communities across the world.

Through a dedicated community vaccination drive, Khula Outreach students gain first-hand experience in public health, community engagement, and preventative medicine.

This experience reinforces a vital truth: veterinarians are not only clinicians — they are advocates, educators, and protectors of public health.

A huge thank you to our veterinary partners who have made this initiative possible
