Overview:

Welcome to your Endocrinology – Refresher Course, developed for general practitioner veterinarians seeking to revisit and reinforce their understanding of common endocrine conditions in small animal practice. This clinically focused programme is designed to boost confidence in recognising, diagnosing, and managing endocrine disorders.

Over six concise modules, you’ll cover the core presentations of Diabetes Mellitus, Cushings, Addisons, Canine Hypothyroidism, Feline Hyperthyroidism and Hyperparathyroidsm. With an emphasis on practical decision-making and up-to-date management strategies, this course provides a solid foundation for improving outcomes in patients with hormonal disease.

You will have 4 months to work through the course material. At the end of the course you will be required to pass a short quiz with more than 70% in order to qualify for CPD points. Upon successful completion, you will earn 6 CPD points. You can download a CPD certificate for your records and the points will be uploaded to the SAVC portal and should reflect within 1 month of completing the course.

Dr Ryan Friedlein MMedVet (Med) BVSc

Dr. Ryan Friedlein is a dedicated small animal veterinary medicine specialist with a strong focus on oncology, radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging, and comprehensive diagnostic workups. After graduating from Onderstepoort in 2009, he spent two years in small animal private practice before pursuing further specialization. He completed his small animal medicine residency and obtained his honours, followed by MMedVet (medicine) specialization in 2017.

 Ryan has worked at specialist referral hospitals in both Johannesburg and Pretoria since 2010, and currently practices out of Valley Farm Animal Hospital in Pretoria. In 2021, he started VMI, a mobile veterinary medicine and imaging consultancy, to provide specialized services and ultrasound imaging to veterinary practices. Passionate about teamwork and collaboration, Ryan believes in working closely with colleagues in the different veterinary disciplines to ensure the best outcomes for his patients and the veterinary field.
